The annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will start the holiday season on Thursday, December 3, at 5:00 pm on the Ellipse of the White House. Marking the start of month-long festivities known as the Pageant of Peace.
On September 11, 2001 3000 people lost their lives due to an act of terrorism. This is a day to never be forgotten in the minds of Americans everywhere. The 9/11 tragedy has been remembered every year since, honoring those who fell on that very distressing morning. The fear and the sadness is something that is hard to let go of, even 12 years later. Every year during the summer our Nation's Capitol hosts the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The festival celebrates and promotes the many authentic, diverse, and living traditions that exist in our World today with a two week celebration that is free to the public.
