The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is Coming
Posted under Washington DC Concierge
Every year during the summer our Nation's Capitol hosts the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The festival celebrates and promotes the many authentic, diverse, and living traditions that exist in our World today with a two week celebration that is free to the public.
This year's Smithsonian Folklife Festival hours are 11:00am to 5:30pm and runs from June 26 to July 7 features the following programs; Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival, One World, Many Voices: Endangered Languages and Cultural Heritage, and The Will to Adorn: African American Diversity, Style, and Identity.
The Washington DC Smithsonian Folklife Festival has something to offer everyone in the family from a variety of workshops, interactive presentations, and other educational events to programs of music, song, dance, celebratory performance, storytelling, illustrations of workers' culture, and narrative sessions for discussing cultural issues.
Since the festival is held outdoors on the National Mall all visitors should dress for Washington, DC's hot and humid weather. Also, since parking is limited it is recommended that all festival attendee's take the Metrorail (either Federal Triangle or National Archives Stations).
